Winter Is Coming, Get Your Furnace Checked
When winter starts moving in, you want to make sure that your house is going to be warm. No one wants to spend all winter without heat, bundled up in blankets and 17 layers of clothes. That means that you are going to have to do some things to make sure that your furnace is going to work when you want it to and that you are going to get the heat that you want when you want it.
Clean Your Ducts
There are a lot of things that you can do to make sure that you get heat in your house. One of them is to clean your ducts. Dirty ducts may not block all of the heat from getting into your house, but a dirty duct can block out some, especially if the vents are dirty. Not only that, the dirt and dust can be blown around your house and cause allergy attacks, asthma attacks, and make your house dirtier. There are various ways that you can clean out your ducts. You may not be able to get your entire ducts cleaned by yourself, but you can clean the vents and the ducts near the vents. You need to have a vacuum with a hose on it. If you don't have one, then you can rent a wet/dry vac. Take the grate off the vent, then use a brush of some sort to get the dust and dirt near the vent off, and stick the vacuum hose down into the duct and start vacuuming it all out.
Inspection
The easiest way to make sure that your furnace makes it through the winter is to have a service tech from a furnace repair company come in and do an inspection of your furnace. When they do that, they are going to look at all kinds of things. Checking out all those things will make sure that all the parts and pieces of your furnace are working well. If something needs to be replaced, the service tech can do that. It's not a guarantee that your furnace won't break down, there is always something that could happen, but having the inspection done is the best safety net you can get.
