Why You Shouldn't Put off Your Annual AC Inspection

Tips To Get The Most From Your Heating System

Your home's heating system is one of the most important pieces of equipment in your home. Whether you have recently had a furnace installed or you attempting to make your current system last a little longer in order to avoid the cost of heating installation, it is important to get the most out of your heating system. The following tips will help you avoid costly heating repairs and ensure your heating system does the job it is intended to do without increasing energy use.

Schedule Routine Maintenance

One of the easiest ways to ensure you get the most out of your heating system is to schedule routine maintenance. To avoid the risk of unexpected heating repair services, your heating system should be inspected at least once a year to ensure that all of the parts are working correctly.  Routine maintenance from a professional heating company will also help you to be aware of any issues and allow you to have repairs done before problems worsen. A heating tune-up will reduce the strain on the system and may help to lower the amount of energy used to heat your home.

Change the Filter

Although it depends on the age and type furnace you have, a good rule of thumb is to check the filter monthly and change it once every three months. If you have an older system, pets in the home or in an area that has a lot of dust, the filter should be changed once a month. Regularly changing the filter will prevent the heater from working harder than it should and it will help your home have cleaner, healthier air.  If you aren't sure the size of the filter your furnace uses or how to change the filter, contact a local heating installation company for recommendations.

Upgrade When Necessary

Sometimes, the best way to get the most out of your heating system is to upgrade the system. Older heating systems typically don't have the same standards of efficiency as newer systems. If you are considering a new heating system, contact a local, reliable heating installation service to arrange a home heating installation consultation to discuss the options available that are best suited for the size of your home and your specific heating needs.

Getting the most out of your heating system requires a little work on your part. For instance, be sure to inspect your home at least once each year to ensure there are no leaks around windows and doors that will cause a loss of heat. Avoid adjusting the temperature on the thermostat more often than you need to.  If you find that you are constantly fighting with maintaining a comfortable temperature, consider installing a programmable thermostat.

About Me

Why You Shouldn't Put off Your Annual AC Inspection

I almost always have my air conditioner inspected every spring before I start using it in the summer. However, last year I decided to skip the inspection. Everything had been OK for the last couple of years, so I assumed that it would be fine this year as well. Why not save a few dollars and skip the annual check up, just this once? Of course, this was the year that my air conditioner decided to break down. It ran for a few days, but it never really seemed to get cool enough to bring the indoor temperature down. Then it started making a loud noise, right before shutting off completely. By that time, the AC repair company was swamped like it always is when the weather is warm, and I had to wait days for an appointment. Next year, I will definitely be getting that yearly inspection first.
