Why You Shouldn't Put off Your Annual AC Inspection

Signs To Watch For That Tell You When Your AC System Is Failing

It's easy to know that you need residential air conditioning services when your system doesn't turn on or produce any cool air, but it can be more challenging to know when a system has other issues. For example, you might see some signs when your system is starting to fail. If this happens, you'll need repairs soon.

What signs should you look for that indicate your system is failing? You can check out the following signs to help you know that you need AC services.

The system runs all the time

A central AC system shouldn't run all the time, even when the temperature is very hot outside. A normal system should run for a while and then shut off. It might turn back on within a few minutes during hot spells, but it shouldn't run constantly. If your system runs all day long and rarely shuts off, there might be issues that you need to address.

Your home will not cool off enough

Next, does your home feel cool? Does your home cool down to the temperature you set on the thermostat? If not, there is a problem, especially if your system runs constantly. A system should keep up with the homeowner's demands by running until it reaches the desired temperature. It shouldn't take all day for this to happen. If you're having problems reaching the desired temperature, your AC system might be impaired or need repairs.

You hear the system turning on and off often

Short cycling is a problem to watch for with your central AC system. A system that short cycles turns on and off repeatedly. It keeps happening all day long, yet it shouldn't. Short cycling is an indication of a bigger problem, and it can be the result of many issues, including low coolant.

The system smells bad

You might also want to see if your AC system smells bad. You might have a faulty system if you smell bad odors from the vents or the unit. The only way to find out is by hiring a residential AC company to examine the unit.

Hire an AC company when you see these signs

If you're experiencing problems with your central AC system, including these signs, you should start searching for a company that offers residential air conditioning services. They can help you determine the problem and the necessary remedy. Call one today to schedule services!

About Me

Why You Shouldn't Put off Your Annual AC Inspection

I almost always have my air conditioner inspected every spring before I start using it in the summer. However, last year I decided to skip the inspection. Everything had been OK for the last couple of years, so I assumed that it would be fine this year as well. Why not save a few dollars and skip the annual check up, just this once? Of course, this was the year that my air conditioner decided to break down. It ran for a few days, but it never really seemed to get cool enough to bring the indoor temperature down. Then it started making a loud noise, right before shutting off completely. By that time, the AC repair company was swamped like it always is when the weather is warm, and I had to wait days for an appointment. Next year, I will definitely be getting that yearly inspection first.
