Why You Shouldn't Put off Your Annual AC Inspection

3 Reasons You Might Have Poor Airflow And How To Fix The AC Unit

Airflow issues are among the most common complications that affect AC units. So, if you have noticed that the volume and quality of air blowing through your home has diminished, it is possible you have a problem with your cooling unit. Note that an ideal way to handle this issue is by finding out what could be obstructing the flow. Here are the most common causes of airflow restrictions and expert ways to solve the problem.

Something Is Obstructing the Registers

Perhaps you've found that the temperature in the house remains constant even while the AC is running. Also, you may have noticed that your home is still uncomfortably warm despite turning the thermostat down. If this is the case, you could be dealing with a clogged vent register, which is one of the most common and easy-to-fix causes of poor ventilation. To do this, clear any debris or dust from the vents and registers. Further, make sure nothing is blocking your vents, such as a piece of furniture or a piece of decor. Note that if the air in your home isn't circulating, it won't feel comfortable even if your AC system works fine.

Blockage in the Ducts

Inadequate ventilation can also result from damaged ductwork. Note that as time passes, your ducts might experience obstructions from grime and dust. For this reason, you should have them professionally cleaned occasionally. Further, mold and mildew can grow inside the ductwork if there is an excessive amount of dampness and moisture. Another additional source of blockages includes pests that invade and build homes in the ducts. So, contact an AC repair expert to clean your ducts and remove any blockages to restore proper airflow.

An Outdated System

If you've just bought an existing home or finished some renovations, you might find that the ventilation isn't quite right. If this is the case, the issue could be an outdated AC layout. Remember, AC systems and models keep changing over the years like any other technological advancement. So, even though a system was cutting-edge back in the day, that doesn't mean it can deliver the same airflow quality as a modern unit. So, call a qualified AC expert to evaluate your current cooling unit to determine if it suits your home. If not, they will recommend a replacement and propose a few options suitable for your home.

The best way to resolve problems connected to the airflow is by consulting an AC repair expert. They will assess your unit and let you know what issues could be causing the blockage and ways to fix the problem.

About Me

Why You Shouldn't Put off Your Annual AC Inspection

I almost always have my air conditioner inspected every spring before I start using it in the summer. However, last year I decided to skip the inspection. Everything had been OK for the last couple of years, so I assumed that it would be fine this year as well. Why not save a few dollars and skip the annual check up, just this once? Of course, this was the year that my air conditioner decided to break down. It ran for a few days, but it never really seemed to get cool enough to bring the indoor temperature down. Then it started making a loud noise, right before shutting off completely. By that time, the AC repair company was swamped like it always is when the weather is warm, and I had to wait days for an appointment. Next year, I will definitely be getting that yearly inspection first.
