Why You Shouldn't Put off Your Annual AC Inspection

Signs You Need Your Air Conditioner Ducts Cleaned

Most homes will have their air conditioners serviced yearly but tend to forget about the air ducts. Unfortunately, neglected air ducts can interfere with your air conditioner's efficiency. Therefore, you must also invest in air conditioner duct cleaning services to prevent problems. Here are the indicators that your air ducts are dirty.

Dusty Grills

At the end of every air duct, you'll have a grill. So, your air conditioner must blow the air past the grills. And if you are keen enough, you can use the grills to determine the health of your ducts. In most cases, dirty air ducts leave debris and dust particles on the grills. So, always check the grills on your air ducts to ensure they are clean.

Allergies Keep Getting Worse

Allergies can make your life difficult, especially if they keep getting worse. You might even expect your allergies to subside after turning on your air conditioner, but that's not the case if the air ducts are dirty. Remember, dirty air ducts have so many particles that can trigger and worsen allergies. So, no matter how often you change your air filters, the allergies won't subside. The only solution is to get an air conditioner duct cleaning service.

Bad Indoor Air Quality

Air conditioners should help improve the air quality in your home. The air conditioners have filters that help clean or purify the air in your home. That's why the air in your space should smell fresh after turning on your AC system. However, for the air quality to be great, you must have clean air filters and air ducts.

And since people are used to changing the filters after a few months, any drop in air quality can be attributed to dirty air ducts. As such, you should get the ductwork cleaned after you notice a drastic drop in indoor air quality.

Presence of Mold

Mold can attack various places in your home. As long as the conditions allow for mold growth, expect to find mold in your ductwork. You will need to inspect the ducts after some time to confirm the presence of mold. Sometimes you will see mold near the air duct grills. And if you do, don't hesitate to have the air ducts cleaned, as mold can affect your health.

It's Been Long

Air conditioner ducts must be cleaned once every three to five years, depending on your locality. So, if you haven't cleaned your AC ducts in the last three or so years, it's time to get them cleaned. Your ductwork can accumulate dust, pollen, and mold pretty fast. So, give the ducts a proper cleaning after a few years.

About Me

Why You Shouldn't Put off Your Annual AC Inspection

I almost always have my air conditioner inspected every spring before I start using it in the summer. However, last year I decided to skip the inspection. Everything had been OK for the last couple of years, so I assumed that it would be fine this year as well. Why not save a few dollars and skip the annual check up, just this once? Of course, this was the year that my air conditioner decided to break down. It ran for a few days, but it never really seemed to get cool enough to bring the indoor temperature down. Then it started making a loud noise, right before shutting off completely. By that time, the AC repair company was swamped like it always is when the weather is warm, and I had to wait days for an appointment. Next year, I will definitely be getting that yearly inspection first.
